Just because your kitchen and/or bathroom is small, does not mean you have to sacrifice on style or function! Small spaces actually have a lot to offer, if you are willing to dig deeper and implement a great design. Maximize on all the space you have, and you will love your small kitchen or bathroom.

Storage is key for a small space. In a tiny kitchen or bathroom, you do not have the luxury of wall to wall cabinetry set up to store every single thing you own. This means you need to work with what you have to build in as much storage as possible. Install shelving, cabinetry, and other storage space in all areas possible. This could mean an extra shelf on top of a door, a medicine cabinet that opens up to reveal shelving, or kitchen cabinets that extend all the way up to the ceiling.

Consider lighting when you are designing your small space. Often, smaller kitchens and bathrooms feel dark, as the walls are closer together and there are no huge windows. Make sure your room is well lit, with various lighting sources and angles. This will go a long way in making the room feel brighter and lighter.

Curate your belongings that will remain in the kitchen or bath, and declutter regularly. When you do not have to store as many things, you will have more room and your shelves and surfaces will feel less cramped. Clearly label baskets and bins so that you can know exactly what is in each container without having to rifle through them all, and make sure you aren’t wasting space by keeping empty containers around!

Focus on storage and lighting, and your small space will feel enormous.
