If you are a coffee drinker or a family of coffee drinkers, then one addition you should consider including in your new or newly renovated kitchen is a coffee station. In today’s blog article we are going to address the main points related to having a dedicated coffee station space.

What is a coffee station?

A coffee station is a dedicated area for one or more coffee makers. Depending on what you drink and the space available, you may want an espresso maker, a regular coffee maker, a steam wand for heating milk, and storage space for cups, spoons, sugar, and the coffee supplies.

Generally, it’s a good idea to have the coffee station not too far from the sink, in order to access water, and a cloth for clean-up tasks. However, if you have the room, you could put the coffee station further away if you can have a small prep sink nearby.

Other considerations

If you intend to install a large or even commercial espresso maker, these tend to be hard-wired into your space with permanent plumbing. This allows the espresso maker to refill with water easily. Also important is access to the unit in case it ever needs repair. Some kind of garbage receptacle nearby would also be useful or at least something for waste coffee grounds, if you want to compost your coffee grounds.

Again, if you have the room, a small refrigerator, like a bar fridge or even refrigerated drawer would be great for milk and cream. This makes the coffee station completely independent of the rest of your busy kitchen. However, if you do not have sufficient space, just having a built-in coffee maker gives you added counter space.

For coffee lovers, a dedicated coffee station is wonderful addition that you will not regret.
