The steps involved in a Langley kitchen renovation will be similar to the steps in the renovation in any city in Canada where both subtrades and products are readily available. While the steps may vary somewhat with the scope of the project, in today’s blog, we will give you a general idea of what to expect.

Planning

The first step to renovating a new kitchen in Langley is the planning stage. This is when you choose your contractor or project manager, consult with a design person, if needed, and figure out what materials will be needed.

This step includes things likes measuring, choosing colours and materials, ordering what is needed and planning the order of work including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

Demo

Next a bin will likely be needed to receive waste from cabinetry, drywall, and flooring. Whatever needs to be torn out is done first, so there is a clean slate to work from. Materials may start arriving and need to be stored until needed, even if that means covering them will tarps and keeping them outside.

Also, plastic may be put up in doorways to prevent a lot of dust and dirt from making their way throughout the house. Water may need to be shut off for a few hours.

Structural Work

Next, any structural work is taken care of. This might mean new beams to support loads, new walls, new electrical or plumbing lines may be moved or installed. All of this is done in preparation for replacing cabinetry. It’s possible that the bin may no longer be needed.

Install

Next is installation of everything. Flooring, cabinetry, light and plumbing fixtures. The space begins to take shape. Everything is painted. Once cabinets are in place, then lighting in or under cabinets can be finished as well as a backsplash or hood for the stove.

Finishing

Finishing refers to all the final touches. Cabinet hardware is installed, for example, and all the fixtures, appliances, and outlets are tested. There may be some paint that needs to be retouched or caulking needed. When everything looks right, the area needs professional cleaning. The client will have a walk through with the contractor to make sure everything is perfect.
