We are integrating more and more technology into our daily lives, from smart home products like smart sockets and WiFi-enabled lights to more precise thermostats you can control with your phone. One of the latest spaces seeing a lot of innovation is the kitchen.

Like every other room and device, kitchens are becoming smarter and so are the gadgets we use in them. One of the most obvious areas where kitchens are becoming smarter is in appliances. Almost every large and plenty of smaller appliances has a smart equivalent.

For example, many fridges and ovens are being equipped with food recognition, technology that allows these appliances to recognize what food is being stored or cooked in it and what special requirements that food may have. Smaller appliances include things like Smart Instant Pots with WiFi-enabled controls that can be programmed and modified on the go, or a blender that cooks in addition to blending opens a whole array of unique cooking options.

A simpler option with a smaller price tag is smart plugs. These can give features like voice recognition and basic WiFi control that will considerably smarten up your kitchen.

Smart Bulbs are another consideration and while not causally related to a smart kitchen they are a major component of many smart homes. However, while it may seem ideal to have everything controllable by phone there are some things to take into consideration. Currently most smart kitchen appliances have poor integration to larger smart home systems such as Google Home or Alexa.

As well, many have been over designed to remove physical controls altogether. There are appliances and devices for which you should avoid taking away manual control as it’s rarely faster to get out your phone compared to making quick changes with manual controls when you’re standing there.

Hopefully we have given you some fun ideas of some ways technology can be integrated into your kitchen and we, here at Elite Kitchens & Bathrooms, can help to facilitate many of these changes by installing smart sockets or appliances and optimizing the design of your kitchen to take advantage of these new devices.
