As we approach the end of 2026, some people thinking about new kitchens are wondering what the expected design trends are for the upcoming year. This is what we are going to explore in our blog article today. Keep in mind, however, that you should love your kitchen, and no matter what the design trends are, you have to be comfortable living day-to-day with your choices.

Invisibility and Monochromaticity

The 2027 trends are for kitchens to blend into their surroundings. In fact, instead of kitchens having every cooking bell and whistle, people are opting for a scullery kitchen, hidden away, where all the real work happens. Having a scullery kitchen requires the square footage and footprint to enable that, but it is a great solution for a busy kitchen to keep sights and smells hidden.

The newer kitchens try to blend in. Often, they are even furnished as if they were part of a living room. So, you might see a lamp on an island or a comfortable chair in a kitchen, things that we did not see 10 years ago.

Colours are more muted. They are monochromatic where possible and wood is coming back with themes of stone and sand colours. Kitchens are quieter with a gentle inspiration. You may see some pops of colour in wall art or a singular piece of hand-blown glass.

We always recommend keeping kitchens as neutral as possible if you are planning to sell within five years. If your house is yours for many years, then the sky is the limit. White kitchens are well on their way out, unless it is your personal dream.
