Tips For Cleaning Granite Countertops

Granite countertops are a beautiful addition to a kitchen. But when they’re dirty, they stand out for all of the wrong reasons. Fortunately, cleaning granite is not difficult. You do not need to have any special skills. You just need to follow a few tips and your granite counter tops will look as good as new on a daily basis. First, you need to dust the countertops to remove any dirt and dust. Do not use a paper towel since it will force the dust into the corners. Instead, use a microfiber cloth. The cloth will lift and remove the dust. Then, your granite countertops are ready for a wash. Don’t use acidic cleaners such as vinegar or ammonia. The acid in those cleaners can dull the countertops. You should also avoid powdered cleaners. Instead, use water or a stone cleaner. If you have a stubborn oil-based stain, mix the water with some baking soda. If it is a water-based stain from hard water, use a bit of hydrogen peroxide in water. Finally, you can polish your countertops with Armor All. While the product is normally used for vehicles, it can restore your granite’s luster and shine. Put some Armor All on a microfiber cloth and wipe it around the countertops. Spread it evenly so the entire surface will shine. Then, wipe the Armor All off with a clean microfiber cloth. Be sure you are thorough so it does not streak. When you are finished, your countertops should look shiny and new. Use these tips to make your granite countertops stand out for all of the right reasons. Once...

Most Commonly Used Custom Cabinet Inserts

Custom cabinet inserts are designed to make using your cabinets easier, more convenient, and more space efficient. Hard to reach corners can be fully utilized and items that are small and compact can be stored in small, compact spaces. Here the most commonly installed custom cabinet inserts. Base spice pull-outs A base spice pull-out cabinet in your kitchen can be installed where there’s no space for anything else, but just enough space for those small spice jars. Wall spice pull-outs Installing a spice pull-out cabinet right into the wall of your kitchen not only saves space, but also ensures the spices are kept cool and dry at all times. Wall pull-outs make it easy to see all your spices, too. Lazy Susan Although this term generally applies to round spinning trays for a table, it also refers to additions you put in the corner cabinets in the kitchen. It can be difficult to reach the far corner of a corner cabinet, but a lazy Susan makes all your cabinet space accessible. Rollout garbage and recycling Rollout or pullout garbage and recycling cans can be placed behind a cabinet door in your kitchen, keeping it looking neat, but making it easy to pull out the bins and discard waste and recyclables in an organized way. Tip out sink trays Tip out sink trays are the place you put your sponges, dish rags, and scrubbers. They hold everything you need at the sink, but are easy to clean. They come in various sizes, meaning you should measure your dimensions before ordering. Wine racks Besides serving their purpose of storing wine bottles,...

Holiday Decorations for the Kitchen

If you like having a festive feel in the kitchen over the holidays, you have probably been tempted by all kinds of decorations. It’s fun to brighten things up with lights or candles, a few festive accents here and there, and maybe you’ve even put the baking things somewhere handy because you’re expecting to use them more than you usually do. But the holiday season is also a time when things can be a bit chaotic and crowed, there’s a lot of cleaning up to do, and clutter is a big threat. How can you decorate your kitchen for the holidays without causing more trouble than the decorations are worth? Go Up High Decorations are not things you’ll be needing while you cook and bake in the kitchen over the holidays. So start with some touches up high where you can’t store anything useful anyway. This is a good opportunity to get out a ladder, dust cabinet tops or clean the top of the refrigerator, and then put pine boughs up high where they can be seen but won’t be in the way. You can even thread some lights through them for a really charming holiday look. Easy-to-Move Accents  If you do put smaller decor accents on counter tops or the table, use items that are easy to move. A centrepiece that is made up of many small pieces and will leave bits behind is just going to be frustrating, so choose something solid that can be picked up and put on another surface without a lot of fuss. Windows and Shades  Making a frame of lights around the...
Twelve Steps to Spa Relaxation in a Custom Bathroom

Twelve Steps to Spa Relaxation in a Custom Bathroom

Custom Home Spa Baths provide a wonderful retreat right in your home. In December, there is just so much to do. The holidays require so much preparation: shopping, baking, planning, decorating, eating, visiting, Christmas concerts, school plays, writing Christmas cards, trimming the tree, the list goes on and on. It seems like we need a holiday from the holidays! So, for those of us who just cannot escape to an all-inclusive resort, why not bring the relaxation home to you? In my attempt to keep life simple, I still find myself running around this time of year to get everything done and when I feel like I am almost under control, I realize I forgot something. But something we shouldn’t neglect, is time for us. While taking care of everyone else and making sure they have a wonderful Christmas, we have to find some time to take care of us. So, how about a spa day at home? Transform your bathroom into your very own spa! Here are some things that I have found on the “must have” list for my own “12 Steps to Relaxation in the Holidays” for a spa experience in your own custom bathroom: Unplug – take some time away from the computer, the IPad, your phone, the TV, etc. The only thing I don’t recommend unplugging, is your ipod. In fact, make sure you plugin your iPod in your custom bathroom and listen to a selection of beautiful, soothing music. Take everything off – yes, clothes, jewelry and makeup. This is a great time to cleanse your face. Well, you might want to wait...

5 Tips For Selecting Kitchen Cabinets

Selecting kitchen cabinets is an enjoyable part of a kitchen design or remodel. Kitchen cabinets take up significant space and serve a critical purpose, plus they’re the first thing that people see when they walk in the kitchen.. For anyone that wants a delightful kitchen that looks impressive to the eye, take a look at these 5 tips for selecting kitchen cabinets that will help you. 1. Which Material Works?  These days you can purchase kitchen cabinets made of many different materials. Each brings numerous pros and cons. Some of those choices include laminate cabinets, plywood, and natural woods like oak, pine and cherry. Choose the material that looks good with the existing features of the kitchen or meet your desired design aesthetic. Modern kitchens that feature stainless steel look great with colored laminate cabinets. Cottage chic styled kitchens look good with a light oak. 2. What Color Will You Enjoy in the Long Term?  Many people are branching out from traditional wood cabinets and opting for decorative colors to add the finishing touch to their kitchen. You must also consider the type of finish that you want your cabinets to have, which will also impact the colors chosen. Look at examples and remember that you’ll be looking at this every day. 3. About More Than Cost  Small things, like whether or not a kitchen cabinet is glazed, will have an effect on the cost. A simple glazed cabinet could cost as much as 25% more than a non-glazed cabinet. But maybe you’ll be so much happier that the extra expense is worth it. Don’t rush a decision or...

Kitchen Countertop Considerations

Verona’s Tips: What to Consider When it Comes to Countertops One of the most exciting choices you will make regarding your new custom kitchen is the countertop. The cabinets are usually more demure, staying with a natural wood, a stained wood or white, black or grey (the newest colour to become popular). But you can really add drama, glitz and texture with the countertop. I think of it as the “pop” like the way your purse or shoes can accentuate any outfit with some colour. The fantastic thing about counters is that there are so many choices, you can really make your kitchen unique. “You can really add drama, glitz and texture with the countertop. I think of it as the “pop” like the way your purse or shoes can accentuate any outfit with some colour. ” – Verona Jungling Granite is, for most people, the countertop of choice. Granite is good for high-use areas, fairing well against hot pots, spills and knives. My only complaint against granite was that it is not food safe unless sealed. The process of sealing the granite wasn’t hard or costly, but it was required at least once a year. Granite has cracks in it-it is a piece of stone after all. Those cracks can harbour bacteria and could be transferred to your food when being prepared. Maybe I am a bit over-cautious, but I feel better knowing that my kitchen is food safe. So, until now, I wouldn’t recommend granite because of this. But with our new sealing process, we can provide you a food-safe granite that we are really excited about....
Summer Kitchen trends

Summer Kitchen trends

Verona’s tips: summer 2013 trends  I was a little concerned about commenting on trends because trends usually mean something that is popular one day and unpopular or out-of-date the next. Although this usually applies to fashion, kitchens also fall victim to trends. The good news is that the trends stay longer with kitchens than wide-legged jeans! So in researching trends for 2013, I tread carefully, with a lot of consideration to our west coast lifestyle. Taking the above into consideration, there is some good news to share with you! The trends this season are towards traditional or transitional style kitchens. Traditional kitchens are easy to understand. But “transitional” kitchens refers to a traditional kitchen in its essence but with a simpler aesthetic appeal. It has cleaner lines and less decorative accents. But, in both kitchens, we at Elite like to emphasize function. Your kitchen should still be comfortable and accessible. Those things are always in trend! According to Zillow Digs Spring Trend Report, May 2013, the traditional look is very popular but the focus is on organization and storage ideas as well as islands. It always seems that there are more pots than there are cupboards. So, organization is something we take seriously! Those pots should be easily accessible or you just won’t use them. We prefer drawers instead of cupboards for your lower kitchen cabinets. You can reach the pots no matter where they are-even in the very back of the drawer without stooping or kneeling. The pot racks that were a big trend a few years back are giving way to the cleaner look of having your pots neatly tucked away in drawers. We have...
